When it comes to make up brushes there are a few staples that everyone should have in their brush kit. The Kabuki brush is one such brush. Out of all the tools that make up artists and estheticians have at their disposal, this brush is always on the top of their list. We reached out to nationally acclaimed make up artist, esthetician, and educator Noreen Young and asked her about the history of the Kabuki brush. Noreen told us that , “Kabuki brushes are rich in history and were the choice to apply KABUKI makeup in Japanese theater.”
We asked her why she liked them. Here’s what Noreen had to say. “As a professional makeup artist and an esthetician I love to use this brush 3 ways.
1. This short squatty brush fits in the palm of your hand and you have so much control with it when holding it to apply makeup with your fingers. They come in a variety of colors. ( like the ones in pink by Crown Brush –My clients love them too)
2. Makeup artists usually use them for applying loose or pressed powder. However, I like to also use it to do over all blending, or to use on the body and décolleté to apply shimmer powder or bronzer.
3. They also are good to use for basic blending of powder foundation.”
They’re also great for more than just makeup application. Noreen gave us a great tip, “As an esthetician, I like the synthetic ones that are man-made, vegan and eco friendly, I use them to buff the complexion with water and exfoliating powder or to apply fresh made masks in my treatment room. Don’t just use them in your spa…sell them on the beauty of this tool and why they need one.”
