Blue Planet Electrolyzed Drinking Water is the Latest Innovation of the New Science of Water
Northridge, CA Water is not just water anymore. The world has now come to accept bottled water as a staple of life, when a few short years ago it was seen as a luxury for celebrities and athletes. The only consideration for choosing a brand back then was the best taste, or perhaps the most exotic source. But since the 1990’s, a new buzzword has been circulating among water aficionados – “structured” water. Structured, or electrolyzed, water has been altered at the molecular level to change the formation of its molecule.
Studies have shown that people may be drinking their eight glasses of water a day but still not getting enough hydration inside their cells, where our good health begins and ends. A body’s extra-cellular water content may be fine but its inter-cellular content may not be, meaning that the body’s cells are essentially suffering from dehydration. Chemically, all actions in the body are dependent on water. A brief chemistry review – a water molecule is made up of two electrons of hydrogen and one electron of oxygen, hence, H2O. The two hydrogen electrons extend from the oxygen electron like a two-legged stool, and the separation between the angle is 135 degrees. With the chemical process of electrolyzation, the angle is reduced to between 45 and 65 degrees. What this means is that the chunky molecules are now thinner – they fit together more efficiently and therefore more of them can cluster together and squeeze into your cells, providing better inter-cellular hydration.
Electrolyzation is not a new process; it was pioneered in the 1800’s, but it was the Japanese who explored its use for water purification. In Japan, large electrolysis units are common in households for purifying drinking water and it was the Japanese who also introduced the use of low pH acidic water for skincare, to treat chronic skin conditions. The Mikuni Corporation is the leading pioneer in introducing electrolyzed skincare in the US with two products utilizing the process, Revenir and Charme Skincare Systems. The Functional Water story that began with the skincare products in 2002 is now complete with the addition of the bottled “Ion Enhanced” drinking water.
The first company to introduce electrolyzed alkaline bottled water to the market in 1995 was established by Merlin Yockstick, founder of Blue Plane Water. Merlin was “bit by the water bug” when he discovered electrolyzed water, using his background as an educator and entrepreneur to bring the product to the market. Merlin saw the many other brands of water on the market as “me too” products. None of them offered anything beyond a spring water or common filtered water. “There was nothing on the market offering these types of health benefits,” Merlin says. “This is the water planet and we are water beings. Electrolyzation is the future of water.” Blue Planet Water is electrolyzed, filtered, re-mineralized and enhanced for superior hydration and a smooth, clean taste. The water is being launched initially in the Spa and Sport markets through Mikuni with 450 spa distributors and a promising distributorship in the golfing and fitness markets.
The benefits of electrolyzation go even beyond taste and hydration. Bad diets, pollution, soft drinks and stress all help contribute to an acidic state in the body. Electrolyzed water helps the body to return to an alkaline state, which cells need to be kept in. All enzymes are pH dependent and the pH of blood and interstitial fluid is an alkaline 7.40. Many disease states are connected to a high acidity level in the body, so drinking electrolyzed water is essentially detoxifying. In addition, electrolyzed water has lower dissolved oxygen levels and increased dissolved hydrogen ion levels. What this means is that it provides antioxidant support and the reduction of free radicals in the body.
Dr. Robert Greenberg, a biochemist and chiropractor who collaborates with Merlin Yockstick, cites the antioxidant benefits as the most important aspect of electrolyzed water. “The water has a lower ORP, Oxidation Reduction Potential,” he notes. ORP is a measurement to oxidize contaminants. With free radical exposure to the cells, and the diminishing of our cells as we age, it is vital to help neutralize cell damage. “With increased electrons comes increased cell energy,” says Greenberg. “Electrolyzed water is essentially ‘live’ water.” Increased energy levels is an effect that has been documented by the water’s test subjects, along with increased detoxification, increased hydration without a bloating effect, and a sweet smooth taste. “The body has a river that flows around every cell in the body,” says Greenberg. “The majority of the river is water. We have to change the biological terrain of that river. We can’t continue to just build bigger guns to fight disease; we’ve got to stop and create a symbiotic environment in the body’s system.”
Merlin’s vision for electrolyzed water is far reaching; he has created a charitable foundation called Blue Planet Village. Portions of profits are used to address the local and global issues of safe water consumption, water pollution and water scarcity. Eventually profits will be used to help third world countries develop their water sources into electrolyzed systems.
