Phoenix, AZ (November 8, 2007) PBA’s diverse membership encompasses many of the world’s leading beauty professionals, from salon and spa owners to manufacturers and distributors, but one thing remains constant: PBA’s passion and dedication to improving the professional beauty industry. Nowhere is this passion illustrated better than in the hard work put in by the association’s volunteer leadership, including the Salon/Spa Section’s newest president, NeCole Cumberlander.
Serving as PBA’s first African-American Salon/Spa Leadership Council President, Cumberlander’s devotion to the world of beauty is best demonstrated by her professional accomplishments. Beginning her salon career in 1987, Cumberlander worked her way up from stylist to business entrepreneur. After 15 years as an accomplished stylist, she founded her own salon. Noire et Blanc has received numerous awards and recognitions as has its owner. In 2006, the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) recognized her as one of the Top Ten Women Business Owners of Northeast Ohio. In that same year Noire et Blanc, Inc. was recognized as one of the fastest growing salons in the country by Salon Today magazine. After opening her successful salon, Cumberlander focused her energy on future industry professionals. Looking ahead, she opened Ohio’s first Paul Mitchell Academy. Encouraging aspiring cosmetologists to pursue a career in a dynamic and constantly evolving industry, she currently has over 300 students at her three school locations.
“As president of the Salon/Spa Leadership Council, I would like to see PBA evolve as an inclusive group to benefit all sectors of the industry,” stated Cumberlander. “This is an industry that I am extremely passionate about, and I feel it moving in the right direction. I would like to upgrade the image portrayed by salon and spa owners to keep the industry intact and provide positive mentors for our students.”
Cumberlander is a dedicated PBA member, who also gives back to her community. She works to raise money for breast cancer awareness, participates in the annual Cool, Smooth and Jazzy AIDS fundraiser and is a co-founder of the Andrew Gomez Dream Foundation. PBA is proud to have such a committed member of the professional beauty industry serving on the Salon/Spa Section Leadership Council and looks forward to Cumberlander’s active participation in advancing PBA’s mission.
The Professional Beauty Association is made up of salons and spas, distributors and manufacturers dedicated to improving their individual businesses and the industry as a whole.
