Until spa style visionary Noel Asmar founded Spa Uniforms, Inc. in 2002, the universe of professional spa attire was big on utility, but short on imagination, style and fashion sense. Uniforms generally were white for cleanliness, or black for hipster simplicity before Asmar introduced her palette of sophisticated and unusual color choices along with her chic-lined silhouettes. Kicking off 2008, Charcoal and Chocolate now join Asmar’s spectrum of subtle yet vibrant uniform color choices.
“I create our collections using a rich color palette to inspire spas to create environments which instantly distinguish themselves from the competition,” says Asmar, whose companies also design and manufacture premium spa bedding, manicure and pedicure accessories in corresponding designer shades. “The fact is that white is always a safe, pristine choice, and black is always sleek and urban. But sometimes you want a rich, spicy burst of color suggesting olives, berries, fine wines or decadent gourmet bon-bons.”
Getting “grounded” and reconnecting the mind, body and spirit on an elemental level guide many of Asmar’s color ideas, which often explore the deep, earthy, autumnal end of the spectrum. “Spa treatments help people turn off their overly busy brains for a while,” she says, “and rebalance the person’s energy on a non-verbal level, utilizing the senses, especially the healing power of touch.”
This observation often inspires Asmar to choose deeply energetic pigments which also hold a strong appeal for male spa clients. “The earth-tones feel warm, yet modern to me,” she says. “For instance, I’m visualizing a spa team dressed in our new Chocolate uniforms, offering clients deluxe pedicure services in our Chocolate-with-turquoise-interior Pedicure Bowl, then wrapping them in our exquisite Chocolate SpaPlush Blanket on the treatment bed.” She also points out that both Chocolate and Charcoal offer a slightly less severe alternative to basic black, and, while timeless and slimming, may be less visually draining when worn around the face.
Launched in 2002, SPA UNIFORMS, INC. and its sister company SPA COLLECTION DESIGN STUDIOS, INC. are dedicated to creating excellence in the spa industry through a growing family of products which bring together superb technical performance, function and beauty. SPA UNIFORMS is the preferred supplier for Westin Spas worldwide. Many other exclusive spa venues rely upon SPA UNIFORMS, including 20 deluxe Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton Spa locations, as well as the Bellagio, and the Canyon Ranch SpaClub at the Venetian in Las Vegas.
