2008 New York Spa & Resort Expo and Conference and Medical Aesthetics Conference and Expo addressed virtually every business need for challenging economic climate –
NEW YORK – As thousands of spa and medical aesthetics professionals attended the 2008 New York Spa & Resort Expo and Conference and Medical Aesthetics Conference and Exposition from September 20 – September 22 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center , the message was clear: despite the current down economy, the fields of spa and medical aesthetics are still thriving and evolving. Throughout the busy show floor, conference sessions, workshops, networking events, industry development previews, and accredited continuing education courses, attendees including spa owners, directors, massage therapists, estheticians, and other aesthetic medical professionals, such as dermatologists and plastic surgeons, found unique opportunities to get the latest industry information.
“We are extremely pleased to bring the New York spa community together, especially seeing so much positive activity despite a challenging economy,” said event vice president Nancy Largay. “Through the conference sessions and other features, these events provide professionals with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed, no matter what the economic environment may be.”
Attending industry professionals were presented with an expanded educational conference track to meet virtually every business need, from the latest advances in age management and greening trends to developing and operating a successful spa, resort or medical aesthetics practice within the current economic environment.
“I loved the seminars I attended! They showed me how to expand my bottom line and save money in the long run. I feel like I can apply the advice I learned here to grow my small business bigger and stronger,” said Karyn Plonsky, a makeup artist from New York City .
According to Kenneth Carillo, Director of the Natural Beauty Medical Spa in New York , “The seminars and workshops have been excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the insights and instruction by industry professionals. All the speakers I heard have had concise advice I can adopt for my own use.”
In addition to the conference sessions, new products abounded at exhibits throughout the show floor. The New Product Showcase specifically featured the latest in massage, skincare and medical spa products being introduced at the show, and SpaFinder magazine awarded the best new products with “Best in Show” and “New and Notable” awards.
“This show has been amazing for everyone on the staff to stay up-to-date on the newest body treatments and products we can incorporate into our spa,” said Andrea Cirillo, a massage therapist from Zanya Spa in Lambertville, N.J. “These unique products, even the simple ones, will give us an edge over other spas in our area.”
A major theme of the show this year was greening. In line with the event’s newly-added GreenSpa Expo, a special pavilion sponsored by Organic Spa magazine dedicated to displaying green spa products and services, the 2008 conference sessions also highlighted tips and trends for “going green.”
“I came to Spa and Resort this year just to augment existing retail lines for my day spa, but I ended up finding hotter ‘green’ and natural products than I expected!” said Susan Richards, owner of Woodhouse Day Spa in Parkland , Fla.
According to Lacie Hill, Manager of European Wellness Center in Elkton , Md. , “I came to the shows because we are currently in the process of greening our spa and this was the perfect place to learn how to accomplish that.”
Additionally, attendees and exhibitors found networking opportunities in abundance. “This show is truly the place to be and be seen in the New York City spa scene – there is so much to see and do! In addition to an endless amount of innovative new things on the show floor, there are networking opportunities everywhere,” said Sandra Sadowski, Spa Director of the La Prairie at the Ritz Carlton in New York City . “I have spent time at each booth and am also learning new things and making new connections through ‘stop-and-chats’ on the show floor.”
As the only trade event that caters twice annually to both the fast-growing spa and medical aesthetics industries, the Spa & Resort Expo and Conference and the Medical Aesthetics Conference and Expo are the ultimate resources for new products, treatments and information.
“I love to see how the Spa & Resort and Medical Aesthetics shows have grown – they keep getting better every year! I attend every time because I am so impressed with the wealth of information available. It is definitely the best way to keep abreast of what is going on in the industry,” said Barbara Leibowitz, owner of Barbara Leibowitz Electrolysis in New York City .
According to Margaret Long, Marketing Director of iinnLight Technologies in Laguna Beach , Calif. , “This is our first time at the Spa & Resort and Medical Aesthetics shows, and it has just been a phenomenal way to launch our product to the spas, medical spas and wellness centers, and to get our feet wet in this industry. The show is filled with enthusiastic attendees and buyers. We can’t even keep up with all the positive response!”
The next Spa & Resort Expo and Conference and the Medical Aesthetics Conference and Expo will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center , February 21-22.
