Twin Lakes, WI, September 16, 2010. The Organic Consumers Association announced today
the results of their testing of laundry cleaning products for contamination with 1,4 dioxane
and Life Tree Products once again led the way by being 100% Dioxane-Free. 20 laundry
detergents were tested, including major natural and conventional brands. Life Tree was one
of only 4 brands that tested “clean” in this test, while major brands such as those marketed by
P&G showed some of the highest 1,4 dioxane contamination.
1,4 dioxane is a contaminant by-product of a common manufacturing process used to create
surfactants. It is however considered by the State of California to be a chemical known to cause
cancer. 1,4 dioxane contamination also pollutes the groundwater supply when it appears in
laundry detergents.
The testing was conducted under the auspices of the Organic Consumers Association, the
Green Patriot Working Group and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. It follows up on testing
done in 2009 on Dishwashing Liquids, where Life Tree Dish Soap was one of the leading
brands that showed no dioxane contamination as well.
Life Tree Household Cleaning products have been leading the way for over 20 years in provide
natural alternatives in household cleaning. Life Tree products are marketed by Lotus Brands.
