Unique skin care ingredients that don’t cost us the planet.
(Dec 2010, Vancouver, BC) The days of skin care ingredients that we can’t pronounce are coming to an end. The next revolution is taking us back to our roots with ingredients that are found in the earth and not made in a test tube. For centuries humankind harvested what was needed to survive and be healthy but with the size of the global population today simply taking what we want is also in the past. Everything we harvest needs to be done with care and conservancy.
The Beauty Through Balance natural skin care line incorporates indigenous ingredients from around the world and is developed with passion and pride, starting with careful harvesting that doesn’t negatively impact the environment. Collaboration with experienced harvesters along with the use of specialized methods not only provides a completely pure raw ingredient for maximum benefits but ensures that every step of the process is handled with social and environmental responsibility.
Our harvesting partners throughout the world follow strict guidelines and have been recognized for their sustainable harvesting practices and their social and biodiversity programs. Our harvesting partners in the Amazon are committed to the protection of the rainforest, support of the aboriginal people and conservation of the land and resources. Their efforts have earned them many awards and they have achieved Eco-Certification on the raw ingredients they harvest in the rainforest including the Acai Berry and Capuacu Butter used in the Beauty Through Balance Acai Berry Series.
Back in British Columbia, Intergrifolia Pacific Kelp is hand harvested by local experienced divers that are also environmentalists and follow strict guidelines for proper, safe pruning. Used in the Beauty Through Balance Signature Series, it is one of the fastest growing kelp plants in North America, indigenous to the Pacific West Coast and harvested in the most pristine areas North of Vancouver Island where there are no shipping lanes. The seaweed Harvesting takes place only twice a year and is timed to avoid herring runs in the spring and salmon runs between June and August. Harvesters remove only the tip of the seaweed which grows back in just 3 to 5 days. The fast growing nature of this specific kelp plant means there is no disruption of the eco-system and marine life that rely on the plant for nutrients.
Beauty Through Balance founder and product developer, Sherina Jamal, has spent more than a decade refining the use of these powerful ingredients. “We take pride in creating products that provide sophisticated skin care solutions while playing a direct role in protecting precious resources” says Jamal. “I only work with harvesters that cooperate directly with the government and always maintain aboriginal interests.” Partnering with the Nature Conservancy of Canada has been key for Sherina to help create awareness and provide support by donating a percentage of sales from the Beauty Through Balance products.
As a recognized speaker, writer and educator on the subjects of natural skin care, cosmetic ingredients, spa treatments and more, Sherina’s articles have been widely published in numerous spa, health and beauty magazines.
