FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sam Brocato Receives the Professional Beauty Association’s Humanitarian of the Year Award at the 21st-Annual PBA Beauty Ball & Charity Gala
As Hurricane Katrina swallowed the Gulf Coast whole, everyone near and far felt the devastating effects of this unimaginable tragedy. Salons were flooded and destroyed, and the beauty industry was forever changed. One industry leader, Louisiana native Sam Brocato, immediately took action, helping to form Beauty Associations for Katrina Relief, a national coalition working to rebuild the beauty industry on the Gulf Coast by raising funds for the NCA Disaster Relief Fund/Katrina. For his tremendous and successful efforts to restore the beauty industry on the Gulf Coast, the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) has honored Brocato with the PBA Humanitarian of the Year Award at this year’sBeauty Ball & Charity Gala.
“Sam Brocato doesn’t simply talk the talk – he walks the proverbial walk (or as he calls it ‘the marathon’). With Sam leading the way, the NCA Disaster Relief Fund/Katrina is about to cross the million-dollar mark – and he’s still ‘running’,” says Gordon Miller. “Thanks to Sam‘s unwavering commitment to help salon pros in need, a legacy of giving has begun that has the potential to become an industry movement.”
With approximately 2,500 salons out of power and/or destroyed, Brocato, Chairman of the NCA Disaster Relief Fund/Katrina, made it his mission to raise money for the long-term aid of salon industry professionals affected by Hurricane Katrina. In addition, Brocato worked with government and regulatory agencies to ensure opportunity for employment and license reciprocity for those displaced by Katrina.
“Our sole goal was and still is to make this region of our country, and the hard working salon professionals in it, once again able to provide the vital beauty services upon which their clients and customers depend, and truly need now more than ever,” says Brocato.”
The NCA Disaster Relief Fund benefits salon owners and professionals, distributors, manufacturers, schools and students of the beauty industry who are affected by ill health, bereavement or injury.
The PBA Beauty Ball & Charity Gala is presented annually by the Professional Beauty Association, a non-profit trade association that represents the interests of the professional beauty industry from manufacturers and distributors to salons and spas.
