Highlights of North America’s Largest, Most Exclusive Beauty Event
Phoenix, AZ (July 24, 2014) – The Professional Beauty
Association (PBA) is excited to announce highlights of PBA Beauty Week 2014,
which took place July 12-15 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas,
Nevada. As North America’s largest, most inclusive beauty event, PBA Beauty Week
welcomed more than 27,000 beauty professionals to experience unlimited
networking, educational, and professional growth opportunities offered during
the event. The North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA), Beacon and the PBA
Business Forum rounded out the stellar lineup, which also included new events
like the PBA Regional Forum for the Professional. PBA Beauty Week is produced by
PBA and hosted by Cosmoprof North America.
“PBA is overwhelmed with the
success of this year’s show. We strive every year to bring the best in beauty
and education to our attendees. This year was no exception. We are excited to
continue to cultivate our existing programs and introduce new initiatives for
next year’s show,” said PBA Executive Director, Steve Sleeper.
2014 PBA Beauty Week Event Highlights Include:
Beacon
Held
annually as part of PBA Beauty Week, PBA’s Beacon program accepted 100 student
winners and invited 200 additional student honorable mentions to be part of this
career-changing event. Beacon took students behind the business side of the
industry and provided valuable insight on marketing, business operations,
networking and leadership training. Beacon truly helps students recognize that
they are not just choosing a job, but a lifetime profession. Beacon students
also had the opportunity to attend PBA’s Business Forum and keynote address.
City of Hope’s 2014 Spirit of Life Award Gala
City of Hope’s
National Professional Salon Industry honored Harlan Kirschner of The Kirschner
Group with the 2014 Spirit of Life Award. The evening included live
entertainment by renowned singer Michael Bolton, a silent auction raising
$35,000, and a special opportunity drawing for a chance to win a 2014 Mini
Cooper Coupe, courtesy of Jinny Corp.
The Spirit of Life Award is
presented to individuals who exemplify the ideals and values that have guided
City of Hope for a century, and whose professional and humanitarian
accomplishments are worthy of celebration. Recipients of this prestigious award
include a broad range of leaders from the world of business, entertainment,
science and philanthropy. What connects them is a shared commitment to elevating
the human condition and a profound belief in the power of each individual to
effect change.
PBA Business Forum
Famed businessman, TV
personality and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban delivered the keynote address
to more than 1,000 attendees at the 2014 PBA Business Forum. His talk, “The
American Dream is Alive and Well,” focused on how new and seasoned beauty
professionals can create their own beauty empire in today’s economic climate.
Cuban’s address was followed by a Q&A moderated by Faye Brookman from WWD,
Deborah Carver from Creative Age, and PBA Chairman and owner of Scott J Salon
and Spa, Scott Buchanan. Overall, the 2014 PBA Business Forum addressed key PBA
programs and initiatives helping to shape the future of the professional beauty
industry.
PBA Regional Forum for the Professional
PBA
introduced the PBA Regional Forum for the Professional at the 2014 event. This
educational and networking event was led by industry leaders and designed to
inspire and motivate salon professionals at all levels to take their business
and career to the next level. Discussion topics ranged from marketing and
stylist development to business management and government affairs. Networking
opportunities also allowed attendees to learn from one another and discuss
common interests and business strategies.
NAHA 25th Anniversary
Celebration
As the preeminent photographic beauty competition in North
America, the North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) celebrates the artistry
and skill of the professional salon industry. This year’s 25th Anniversary
Celebration included a specialty opportunity drawing for a chance to win a 2014
Fiat 500A, courtesy of J Beverly Hills, with proceeds benefiting the PBA
Disaster Relief Fund. Plus, high-energy, artistic presentations by Aveda, jcp
salons, Redken and Allen Ruiz, recipient of the 2013 NAHA Hairstylist of the
Year award, electrified the audience.
As the top achievement for
professional hairstylists and makeup artists, past and present NAHA entrants,
finalists and winners continue to push the boundaries of trend-setting style.
NAHA 2014’s top honor, Hairstylist of the Year, was presented to Alain Pereque
from Saco Salon Drummond in Montreal, Quebec. This is Pereque’s first NAHA
Hairstylist of the Year honor. He also won Contemporary Classic in 2010 and was
the Master Hairstylist of the Year in 2008.
After the ceremony
finalists, winners, and attendees celebrated the success and excitement of the
night with an open bar courtesy of PBA at the official NAHA After Party. With
3,000 attendees and thousands more watching the live broadcast by Modern Salon,
NAHA 2014 was the pinnacle of PBA Beauty Week.
2014 NAHA Hosts
Renowned entertainment journalists, television personalities and producers
Bill and Giuliana Rancic hosted the 2014 NAHA Awards Ceremony. As one of
America’s most beloved couples, millions watch the famed couple on their E! hit
reality show “Giuliana & Bill”. In addition to their work together, the Rancic’s
are successful business professionals in their own right and are involved in
numerous charitable organizations, including Bright Pink, Operation Smile, Dress
for Success, Mercy Home for Boys & Girls (Chicago), the National Institutes of
Health (renal cell cancer division), among many others. This dynamic duo brought
charm, energy and excitement to the 25th Anniversary Celebration.
Lifetime Achievement Award
PBA, owners, operators and managers of
NAHA, were pleased to present acclaimed World Master Hair Designer, educator,
artistic director, executive and salon owner Dwight Miller with the 2014 NAHA
Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is considered to be NAHA’s highest honor,
recognizing those who have made outstanding contributions to the hair and beauty
industry and is limited to licensed salon professionals. For 50 years, Miller
has influenced industry changes in hair fashion and technique and continues to
be an incredible inspiration.
PBA Distributor Forum
PBA
once again brought together distributors from across the country for the PBA
Distributor Forum, featuring Paul St. Germain of IBM. Germain’s presentation
“Facing the Forces of Change®” explores the ways in which technological advances
and the connected world are changing distributor operations now and for the next
three to five years; the new role that distributors must play in this connected
world; the ongoing need for business analytics and an advanced understanding of
how they can help distributors meet their objectives; and some of the key
emerging trends that will shape businesses and our lives in the not-too-distant
future.
