State leaders recently attended the 16th Meeting of the National Coalition of Estheticians, Manufacturers/Distributors & Associations (NCEA) held January 28-29, 2008 in New Orleans, LA.
State Boards represented at the meeting included Pamela Springer & Steve Colarusso – Arizona, Kathryn Kailian – District of Columbia, Michelle Turley – Georgia, LaFaye Austin – Oklahoma & current president of the National Interstate Council of State Boards, Larry Walthers – Nevada & Chairman of the National Examination Committee, and Rosanne Kinley – South Carolina & the immediate past President National Interstate Council of State Boards.
Steve Colarusso, Arizona Board of Cosmetology, presented “Principles and Practice of Infection Control for the Esthetician.” Colarusso chaired the NCEA roundtable of professionals organized to deliberate the verbiage on an Infection Control Standard for the NCEA. NCEA voting members overwhelmingly accepted the following addition the NCEA Code of Ethics.
Under Scope of Practice the following addition was made:
Estheticians will follow, at minimum, infection control practices as defined by their state regulatory agency, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). This as well as other Industry National Standards are sent to state regulatory boards to provide guidance and recommendations in the rule-making and/or legislative procedures.
